General surgery is a unit that includes the treatment of systemic and local problems in the human body with surgical methods, as well as general principles (such as wound healing, metabolic and endocrine response to injury) and has influenced many surgical and basic medicine branches in terms of their development.
The Department of General Surgery works in cooperation and coordination with many other departments.
General Surgery also deals with various types of cancer. For these patients, Gastroenterology, Radiology/Interventional Radiology, Pathology, Medical and Radiation Oncology collaborate in the planning of diagnosis, surgery and subsequent treatment stages.
Another area of interest of General Surgery is traumatology. Since traumatized patients often have multiple organ system injuries, we work in collaboration with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiovascular Surgery departments. Especially in severe multi-organ injuries, the coordination of all these medical branches is undertaken by the Department of General Surgery.
